Plasmon-Induced Semiconductor-Based Photo-Thermal Catalysis: Fundamentals, Critical Aspects, Design, and Applications

Photo-thermal catalysis is among the most effective alternative pathways used to perform chemical reactions under solar irradiation. The synergistic contributions of heat and light during photo-thermal catalytic processes can effectively improve reaction efficiency alter design selectivity, even operational instability. present review focuses on recent advances in photo-thermal-driven reactions, basic physics behind localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) formation enhancement, charge carrier generation transfer between plasmonic nanostructures conversion, critical aspects influencing performance, tailored symmetry, morphology engineering efficient systems. By highlighting multifield coupling benefits nanomaterials semiconductor oxides, we summarized discussed several recently developed catalysts their performance energy production (CO2 conversion H2 dissociation), environmental protection (VOCs dyes degradation), organic compound synthesis (Olefins). Finally, difficulties future endeavors related were pointed out draw attention researchers this sustainable technology for maximum utilization.
